A rocking chair sits by the fire
Cooking tired old bones
Grandfather clock ticks of the hours
For another cup of tea

As the days go drifting by

The mantle piece holds the photographs
Taken so long ago
The three piece suite is never used
For guests seem so few

With passing years

Living times in memories
Dreaming of brighter days
Burning out the painful years
Since the time when she was left alone

Play midi Christian Poet This poem and this piece of music live together in my mind. They were both written about the same time in the early 80's. The idea was that the poem should be recited over the music. The music was conceived to sound like a harpsichord when played on a 12 string guitar. Many people have heard it without realising that I was the composer, and it often gets used when I need some incidental music.
